Monika Popiołek

President and CEO of MAart Agency Ltd since 1991 - responsible mainly for business development, strategic and quality management.
She is a graduate of the University of Warsaw Modern Languages Faculty - English Institute (MA), Executive MBA Programme at the University of Warsaw Technology Business School (joint programme with London Business School, HEC Paris, NHH Bergen – MBA degree with distinction), and a PhD Management Programme at the College of Business Administration of the Warsaw School of Economics. Monika's research specializations are strategic quality management and ISO standards.
Monika was the President of the Students and Alumni Association of the Warsaw University of Technology Business School (SAAMBA) in the years 2001-2009, and she still serves as the SAAMBA Supervisory Board Chair. She is also a founding member of the Polish Association of Translation Companies (PSBT) where she initially served on the Arbitration and Management Boards, and then went on to become the PSBT President in 2011. She still holds this position.
She is a member of many associations (an expert-member of the TEPIS Polish Society of Sworn and Specialized Translators, ATA voting member, founding member of SAIP and the Warsaw University of Technology Alumni Foundation, the STL Literary Translators Association and Rotary Poland, among others). She has been a certified sworn (court) translator, registered with the Polish Ministry of Justice, since 1998, served as a translation industry expert to the Polish Labour Institute of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, and she is frequently a speaker at international conferences. Furthermore, she is the Chair of PKN (Polish Standardization Committee) TC No. 256 on Language, Translation and Terminology (ISO TC 37 and CEN 07 Mirror Committee) as well as an ISO and CEN industry expert and head of Polish delegation to ISO TC 37 and CEN (since 2007). Monika was involved in the drafting and editing of the ISO 17100:2015 first international translation requirements standard in the years 2011 - 2015, she is the author of the leading certification scheme for ISO 17100 as well as being responsible for the accreditation system, and she does international auditor training for this standard. She was the Project Leader and main editor for two other international standards - ISO 20771:2020 (Legal Translation - Requirements) and ISO 21999 (Translation Quality Assurance and Assessment - models and metrics) developed within ISO TC 37.
Professionally she is mainly interested in standards, quality management, strategy, systems implementation, project management and big challenges.
Privately she has too many hobbies to list but many of them involve sports – she used to be an athlete and still enjoys swimming, diving, sailing, yoga, tennis, and skiing. She has also recently taken up golf. She enjoys industry conferences and exploring the world in an unconventional way by seeking extreme travel experiences on roads less travelled. Monika also likes the Art Deco style and she passionately loves animals - especially Corgi dogs. She has six Corgis (one Pembroke and 5 Cardigans).
